What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy? 

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) was created in 1990 by David Newton and combines the best theories of Milton Erickson, Kim Berg and Steve de Shazer. At the core of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a 'talking type' therapy that combines the use of psychotherapy and hypnosis or trance.

Hypnosis is a very natural and relaxing state. It is encouraged by using guided relaxation where the mind can relax and focus on thoughts and suggestions that might be useful.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, well-structured and well-researched strategies to help the client make significant, positive changes to his/her life in a relatively short space of time. 

Crucially, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy looks at what the client wants to achieve - not at what prompted the client to seek help.

What happens in a hypnotherapy session?

When you make initial contact we can have a short chat to determine if I am what you are looking for. We will then book you in for an Initial Consultation.

In your initial consultation we will go through a few short questions. I will then explain to you how your brain works and the science behind why and how you feel the way that you do. Don't worry, I won't bamboozle you. I will explain what hypnotherapy is and dispel some of the myths around hypnotherapy (especially if you watched the Paul McKenna show back in the 90's).

You will have a small amount of homework, including listening to a recording when you go to sleep.

Then if you are happy we book you in for you next appointment.

What is required of you?

All I require of you is that you actively engage with the process. 

With Solution Focused Hypnotherapy we believe you have the answers and the more you engage, the more you will achieve through the process. I can not tell you what to do, but I can ask questions that help you to find the answers and enable you to achieve your goals.



When I first heard about Solution Focused Hypnotherapy I thought it was a bit 'airy-fairy'.... how wrong I was!

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is based entirely around the latest NEUROSCIENCE, and uses what we know about the workings of the brain and emotions to enable you to change patterns, habits and thinking.

What is Trance ?

Did you know you go into trance everyday on your own.....? Have you ever driven somewhere and you don't remember part of the journey? That is trance. When you 'zone out' while running or watching TV .... that is trance.

This is where the different parts of your brain focus on the same thing.... you are in complete control, just very focused.

During trance most people close their eyes as this enables them to relax slightly more but it isn't necessary. You will drift in and out of what is being said, some people drift off into a very relaxed state, but don't worry it all still works.

You are never out of control or asked to do anything during trance, it is purely a state of deep relaxation.
